I lost contact with Ian over the years but still remember him with affection. So Just a few of my personal memories. They are from the early sixties When I was about 16, I remember Ian as a trawlerman. He often brought back special fish when he returned from his sailings. He would tell great stories about Iceland and his experiences on the trawlers. A couple of years later Ian was substantially responsible for my decision to enlist in the RAF and I would quiz him regularly about what to expect. We were both avid science fiction fans and shared books and magazines Ian was a great airfix model aircraft builder and his planes were incredibly detailed. We used to go for the odd pint or three at the Wheatsheaf and Ian was never stuck for conversation. Overall, I remember Ian as a warm happy friend who always had a good story to tell and who had a great influence on me as a teenager RIP IAN - PER ARDUA AD ASTRA
